WILD begins Leadership Mentoring School

Women’s Institute for Leadership Development (WILD) facilitated the first block of the WILD Mentorship School online sessions which saw selected women leaders and aspiring leaders being enrolled to participate as mentees in the mentoring program that shall run on a periodic basis. The mentees were selected from the organisation’s areas of operation in Gwanda, Plumtree, Lupane, Umzingwane and Bulawayo. The mentees were drawn from political parties, civil society, business, academia and community women.

The WILD Leadership Mentoring School seeks to enhance women’s effective and full participation in politics and public leadership which is envisaged to be done through strengthening women’s capacities to become effective public leaders and politicians in leading transformative change and reforms.

The first online session of the mentorship program was facilitated by Nomalanga Ncube, a Success Coach who is also the Working Girl Foundation Founder and the Managing Director at Working Girl (pvt) Ltd. She trained the mentees on Purpose and Vision which was aimed at helping the participants to learn about finding their purpose in life and the importance of having a Vision.

Kickstarting the lecture, Miss Ncube highlighted that it is important for one to know their purpose so that you can pursue it and have a fulfilling life on earth as this is the reason for their existence.

“People who know their purpose live in divine alignment with the creator’s plans for their lives. They are generally happy and all of their things work together for good because they are living in purpose. A person who follows purpose does not wait for opportunity, they go out and make things happen,” said Ncube.

Ncube went on to highlight that there are things that one often does for others for free could very well align with or at least point them in the direction of their purpose.

“You may discover as you go along in this journey that you believe that your purpose has to be hard, that it has to be a struggle and a fight. But in reality, when you are living your purpose you will most likely discover that there is a sense of ease. You can also actually ask those around you what they feel are your inborn abilities,” said Ncube.

Ncube went on to say that every person has gifts and talents that they are given which helps them in fulfilling their purpose on earth. She said that it is important to discover or acknowledge one’s gifts and then start using those gifts and talents to fulfil one’s purpose.

“So often I have seen people who are literal geniuses at very specific things – like making flow charts or baking cakes – but because they find these tasks so effortless, they assume that the skill is unimportant or not a skill at all. I encourage you to take a few minutes today to stop and think about the things you do naturally, and then consider that perhaps that it is not that the task is easy in itself, but that perhaps it is your expression of unique and special talent,” added Ncube

Ncube defined vision as a big dream of a bright future and as a mental picture of the result one wants to achieve, a picture so clear and strong it will help make that result real. She added that a vision is not a vague wish or dream or hope, it is a picture of the real results of real efforts.

“A vision board is the most common way of recording a vision, you visualise what you want and then get pictures of what you have visualised such as your dream house, car, business and family. You should paste these on a manilla sheet and hang in your private space. When you look at the vision board every morning you will be reminded of what needs to be done and you are motivated to go on,” said Ncube.

Ncube shared that an ideal Vision Board has five pillars, namely:

Spirit – This is the best version of one’s spiritual life when they are successful

Body – This is one’s desired state of health and appearance 5 – 10 years from now

Mind – This is what books one will need to read in order to detox their mind from poverty and failure to succeed

Money – This is the vision of the amount of money one wants to have when they have succeeded

People – These are the ideal relationships with important people to help with the vision

Describing the vision letter, Ncube said that this is a letter one can write as their future self-telling their current-self on how they have succeeded in their business and other aspects of their vision.

“You then keep this letter, years from now you will read it and laugh at how all that you wrote has come to pass and more. But only if you take action today to fulfil the vision. If you don’t take action nothing will happen. Ten years from now you will be down, out and frustrated,” added Ncube

Concluding the lecture, Ncube urged the mentees to go out and start their journey of finding the best version of themselves.
