Gwanda WACs convene Interface meeting

Women’s Institute for Leadership Development (WILD) participated in an interface meeting that was facilitated by Ward Advocacy Committee members from Gwanda urban. Gwanda town Mayor, Jaston Mazhale was also present for the interface meeting so as to address issues that were raised by the women.

Mayor Mazhale emphasized that even during the lockdown, women should still be able to access maternal health care as well as immunization services for their infants. Mayor Mazhale said that Council had since engaged with the sister in charge at Phakama clinic.

Mazhale added that the trading bays at the rank were being renovated to conform to the social distancing regulations when doing business. Women requested that toilets and taps be installed at the rank so that they are able to exercise good hygiene amid the COVID-19 pandemic as they operate as informal traders in that area.

Women raised concern on the rumour regarding the re-opening of schools at a time when the COVID-19 cases are on the rise. They were concerned that the fumigation exercise was only done at the school grounds and not in the classrooms.

Women agreed that to effectively deal with most of the issues around access to health care, they are going to engage the Ministry of Health so that their constitutional right to access health care services is not violated during the time when the world is battling with the COVID-19 pandemic.
