Gender Champions keen on contributing towards developing Lupane District

Gender Champions from Lupane District convened through an online platform to identify advocacy initiatives that could be lobbied for in their area, particularly with their ability to adequately gain access to service delivery. The engagement was facilitated by Women’s Institute for Leadership Development (WILD) as a means of assessing the current effectiveness of the provision of services at a time when the nation is battling against the coronavirus disease.

 

Delegates who actively participated during the online engagement were drawn from the following residential wards: Matshiya, Menyezwa, Lupanda, Sotani and Mbembesi. During the meeting the following issues were raised:

 

Delegates expressed concern over the lack of supply of clean water for both people and domestic animals in their communities which therefore exposes them to waterborne diseases. In other instances, residents are forced to travel long distances where some routes are not safe for members of the community to use.

 

Natural resources are not being managed properly as the pace of the development of the district is slow.

 

Gender Champions resolved to further investigate together with their leaders on what best can be done to improve the community’s ability to access clean water.

 

Lupane Gender Champions requested for more capacity development initiatives that can best equip them with adequate skills that are necessary for drafting an advocacy strategy.
