Respect Proportional Representation MPs -Youths

Youths in Bulawayo this evening called for the respect of Members of Parliament elected through Proportional Representation.

This was said during a Public Lecture which was held at Ster-Kinekor under the theme “Building Responsible Citizenry: Youth Participation and Leadership for Democratic Governance and Viable Economy.”

Participants said it is disheartening that women seconded to MP seats under Proportional Representation are currently referred to as “Baccossi” legislators.

Responding to comments,Open Society Initiative of Southern Africa (OSISA) Executive Director, Siphosami Malunga said this generation has the worst levels of inequality and discrimination against women.

“It is a fact that there is no equality in the society as men are more privileged than women. Women are often discriminated against and undermined,” he said.

Malunga also encouraged young people desist from complaining about the economic situation and find innovative ideas to better themselves and their community.
