WILD Empowers Youth with Sustainable Solutions

By Duduzile Mathema

In an inspiring move to tackle the growing challenges of climate change, Women’s Institute for Leadership Development (WILD) convened a dynamic Facilitated Knowledge Clinic in Bulawayo. The event brought together passionate youth leaders from Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), and vibrant young women from across Bulawayo, Beitbridge, Binga, Gwanda, and Matobo.

This innovative clinic set the stage for equipping the next generation with cutting-edge climate adaptation strategies tailored to Zimbabwe’s pressing environmental realities. By fostering collaboration and sharing transformative solutions, WILD continues to empower future leaders to drive sustainable change in their communities.

The session delved deeply into capacity-building initiatives, focusing on practical and sustainable solutions. Participants were introduced to essential skills such as Circular Economy principles and Hydroponic Farming—both innovative approaches geared toward addressing environmental challenges while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These topics underscored the critical role of youth in spearheading eco-friendly economic activities that pave the way for a greener future.

Adding further depth to the discussion, a representative from the Environmental Management Agency provided invaluable insights into policies supporting sustainable practices, green skills, and economic opportunities in Zimbabwe. Among the key topics highlighted was solid waste management, identified as a pivotal area for exploration by young leaders eager to drive change in their communities.

A notable highlight of the clinic was a compelling presentation by Ntombifikile Ncube, a Hydroponics Farming Specialist, who shared her inspiring journey in Smart Agriculture. Through her lens, participants discovered the immense potential of soilless farming—a revolutionary method offering new avenues for young entrepreneurs to explore and excel in agriculture, even in resource-constrained environments.

The Facilitated Knowledge Clinic by WILD served as a beacon of hope, innovation, and collaboration. By equipping youth leaders with tangible skills and fostering critical discussions, the event laid the groundwork for sustainable economic opportunities, further empowering the next generation to lead climate-resilient initiatives.
